Motherhood is a very difficult journey. It can be a stressful experience, especially for pregnant, new and single moms. Each day, mothers in our region endure emotional, physical and financial challenges.
The holiday season should be a time for joy, but for some moms it’s a struggle to make ends meet just to help their family barely get by. Help spread some cheer during the holidays and show support by writing an uplifting Letter of Love to a St. Louis mom.
Over the past year, people within our community have been writing Letters of Love providing encouragement to moms going through stressful times. We then deliver them to a mom in need of support. Today, nearly 1,200 personal letters have been submitted and distributed as a symbol of gratitude and empathy for mothers who need it most. Submit a Letter of Love.
Here are some ideas for writing a letter:
- Your letter can be short or long, as long as it’s from the heart.
- Encouragement is the key here. Moms don’t need long lists of advice. They simply need to know that someone in St. Louis is rooting for them.
- Remember, all moms – no matter their age, income level or life circumstances – want the best for their children.
- If you’re a mom, feel free to share personal experiences with pregnancy or parenthood. Did you overcome postpartum depression? Are you a single mom? Sharing a personal story of strength is a great way to inspire someone else.
- Sign your letter with just your first name. Recipients of the letters won’t know anything else about you.
Many groups in our community have taken this simple act of kindness a step further, organizing Letters of Love writing parties to gather friends, family or coworkers together to write letters.
